Can A Driving School Give You Your Driver's License?

Published on 2021-09-17 in Driver License

Getting your driver's license can be a long and sometimes tedious process. Of course, you're anxious to get it over with as soon as you can! In many states, part of the licensing process includes some form of driver's education, whether it be knowledge-based, behind-the-wheel, or sometimes both! Once you've completed your state requirements, you'll want to take your road test and get your license.

But what if I want to get around that? Can my driving school issue my license instead of the DMV or other state agency?

The Answer Is No

While driving schools like Coastline Academy can administer driver's education courses and in some states, even the road test, your actual license to drive will always come from your official state driving office. Once you have passed your road test, you will be given a temporary license that will allow you to drive with the restrictions in place as they pertain to your age and level of the Graduated Licensing Process. The state agency will mail you your physical card, which will then replace your temporary license.

Remember!

Attending driving school is not a guarantee for a driver's license! The school and instructors are there to help you get to a place where you are comfortable behind the wheel and have the essential knowledge of the rules of the road. This will set you up to hopefully pass your driving test, which is the final step to getting your license.
