Driving Lessons Video Series: How To Properly Perform Right Turn At Different Stoplight Conditions

Published on 2022-08-02 in Driving Lessons

Getting ready to take your road test at the DMV office? Then you want to make sure you know how to do all the driving maneuvers the examiner will test you on. One of those maneuvers will be making a right turn while at a stoplight, as they want to make sure you are following the rules of the road when it comes to the color of the traffic light. Our Driving Lessons video series continues today, as one of our driving instructors will show you how to properly perform a right turn at different stoplight conditions.

Traffic Light Rules

As we all know, traffic lights are placed along, beside or above a roadway. They are there to guide, warn and regulate the flow of traffic. This traffic includes motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians and other road users.

The stoplight can have many different actions taking place, like a blinking or solid light and arrows. We will hit on the basics of the red, yellow and green lights. The red light means stop. The yellow light lets us know that the red signal is about to appear. When you see a yellow light, you should stop, if you can do so safely. The green light means go, but always look out for any vehicles, bicycles or pedestrians in the intersection before going through it.

Our driving lessons video series shows you how to properly make a right turn at different stoplight conditions.

Performing A Right Turn At Stoplight

If you are trying to make a right turn while approaching a traffic light, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Every time you approach an intersection the conditions are different.
  • When a green light changes to yellow, it is legal to continue with the turn after you verify the intersection remains clear.
  • When the light changes to red, it is important to come to a complete stop before attempting a right turn.
  • Even if it has turned red very close to your time to execute the turn, you still have to come to a complete stop.
