COVID-19 Must Do: Self-Certify Before Each Driving Lesson

With many COVID-19 protocols in place to keep everyone safe and healthy during this time, Coastline Academy is requiring that both students and instructors self-certify before each driving lesson. What does self-certify mean? We break that down for you so you are fully prepared and ready for your driving lesson.

Self-Certification for Students

Before each driving lesson, the student will receive a text message or email asking them to self-certify. This is done to help verify that they are healthy and ready for that lesson. The email or text message will clearly state the date and time of the lesson they are self-certifying for, so this will need to be done before each lesson.

For the self-certification, we are asking the students to read and confirm these five things:

  1. They have not shown any symptoms in the last 14 days, as well as no one else in their household has shown symptoms during that same time period.
  2. They have practiced wearing their mask, especially if they wear glasses. You want to ensure the glasses won't fog up while driving.
  3. Students must take their temperature the night before and morning of their appointment. They must confirm they do not have a temperature above 100.4ºF.
  4. They must wear clean clothing during the driving lesson, which is to mitigate risks. If they have gone out in public to like a grocery store or pharmacy, then that is not the same clothing they will be wearing while in the vehicle.
  5. Wash their hands when leaving their home and entering the vehicle.

If the student can confirm all five of these things, there is a blue button to click and self-certify for their lesson. If the student is feeling sick or showing any signs of symptoms, there is no need to worry about accruing a cancellation fee for missing an appointment. All cancellation/rescheduling fees are currently being waived for COVID-related cancellations.

Self-Certification for Instructors

Each day, our instructors will be asked to self-certify also. This will be very similar to the procedure of the students, as they have five things to confirm before heading out for a driving lesson:

  1. The driver has followed the stay-at-home order as it applies to their location for 14 or more consecutive days.
  2. They have practiced with and are comfortable with wearing a mask while teaching.
  3. Drivers must take their temperature to start the day and must confirm they do not have a temperature above 100.4ºF.
  4. The driver has not worn their teaching clothes to a public place once they were washed.

These are both simple processes that need to be done, but it helps us create an environment where everyone feels safe during the driving lesson. And as always, if you have any questions, please reach out to our friendly support staff.
