5 Tips to Help Prevent Your Glasses From Fogging Up While Driving

Published on 2021-02-13 in News

COVID-19 took over the world last year and with it brought us mask wearing. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the health organizations have told us to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The mask can be an issue, especially for people who wear glasses. If you do, then you know your glasses fog up immediately and that can be a very bad thing when you are on the road driving. Coastline Academy is here to give you five tips that will help keep your glasses from fogging up from that mask.

1. Shaving Cream

It's not just for shaving! Start by applying a thin layer of shaving cream to the inside of your glasses. Let it sit on your glasses for about one minute and then gently wipe it off. This will leave a protective barrier that will help keep your glasses from fogging up.

2. Pull Mask Higher on Nose

A very common practice is to pull the mask higher up on your nose and then place the glasses over the mask. This will hold the mask in place and weigh it down, which will help in not allowing any warm air to be released from the top of the mask.

3. Soap and Water

Medical professionals use this trick. Wash your glasses using soap and water and then dry them off with a microfibre cloth. The soap will help reduce the surface tension, which will make it harder for the fog to stick to your lenses.

4. Athletic Tape

Tape down the top of the mask to your face. This will seal off the top of your mask and prevent that air from hitting the glasses. For this, use an athletic tape or tape designed for use on skin.

5. Damp Tissue

Another trick from medical professionals, lightly dampen a tissue, fold it up and place it under the top edge of your mask. This concept would probably work better with more secure masks or when using the athletic tape trick above.

We know that glasses are expensive. A lot of glasses come with a special coating on the lenses, so make sure to check with your optician before trying any of these tips. You don't want to ruin the glasses!
