We Answer The Top Questions People Have About Driver's Ed

Published on 2022-03-10 in Drivers Ed

Your driver's license journey can be an intense one, but it is a journey that leads to a new freedom and responsibility. After signing up for Driver's Ed, you begin taking the steps to gain the knowledge and experience needed to become a safe and confident driver. Because this is such an important moment in your life, you (and your parents) may have some important questions to ask regarding our Driver's Ed course. We address some of those top questions we get asked regarding driver's education, so check out the answers below!

1. How much does it cost?

At Coastline Academy, we offer a variety of different courses and in different states. Because of that, the final cost would depend on which course you need to take. You can check our course offerings here. The cost can be different also if you add in driving lessons when making the purchase.

2. How long does it take to complete?

Again, this would be based on the state you live in. As you will learn by going through this driver's training process, each state has different requirements, restrictions and laws in place. For the courses we offer, Texas requires 32 hours, California and Nevada require 30 hours and Missouri is about 15 hours.

3. Is it timed?

This would be linked to the state requirements also. The current states we offer (California, Nevada and Missouri) do not have a timed course, but they are designed to take the state required amount of hours to complete, as mentioned above. For Texas, they do have timers in place - a student can not work more than 2 hours a day and they must actually spend the full 32 hours on course work. Students can not complete the course in less than 16 days.

4. Can you send me a PDF of my certificate of completion?

When you successfully complete your Driver's Ed course with Coastline Academy, we will mail out your Certificate of Completion. We have had many students ask us about sending them a PDF of their certificate and we can not do that. In California, the DMV does not offer or accept electronic certificates of completion, which is why we mail them out to our students.

5. Do I still need to pass the Knowledge Test at the DMV?

Yes, you do. Many students think that passing Driver's Ed and getting that Certificate of Completion means they have their learner's permit now. No, you need to take that certificate to the DMV office and take the written test. If you pass the Knowledge Test at the DMV, then you will be issued your permit.

6. Do you have any assistance with help in passing the Knowledge Test?

Yes, in our driver's ed courses we offer quizzes throughout each section to help test you on what you are learning, as well as a final test that covers everything in the course. You can take these as many times as you would like without affecting your final score. Also, we offer free practice tests that you can also take as many times as you want.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our friendly support staff. If you want to start your driver's training journey with Coastline Academy, make sure to sign up for Drivers Ed and book your driving lesson today.
