Published on 2022-01-13 in Driving Lessons

Coastline Academy is kicking off our new Driving Lessons video series for our readers today. We have been in the process of using our amazing driving instructors to create some videos for our students to learn (and see) some of the driving techniques they will be learning during their driving lessons, but will also be tested on at the DMV for their driving test. Up first, how to perform a basic left turn!

The Basic Left Turn

After you get more and more time behind the wheel, you will begin to see one thing you will be doing a lot of is turning. Whether it is a left turn or a right turn, you will constantly be making these turns to help you navigate through your city. That is why the basic left turn is out first video of the Driving Lessons Series!

The Steps

While it may seem like it is a basic kind of technique, there are still quite a few steps and procedures to complete the turn. They are:

  • Preparing for a left turn starts several seconds before arriving at the intersection.
  • Look for cars and pedestrians to the left and to the right as soon as possible.
  • Sometimes there are obstacles in the way. Look for any gaps to help you look beyond these obstacles.
  • Once coming to a stop at the limit line, look for traffic to the left, right and over the left shoulder and then pull out.

You can watch everything in action by checking out our driving instructor perform a basic left turn right here:
