Feeling Anxious? Tips To Help You Relieve Anxiety Before Your Driving Test
If you are getting ready to take your driving test at the DMV, then you might be feeling anxious. It is understandable, as it is a big test and a ton of people get anxious before that big exam! To help deal with this anxiety, we are going to share some tips to help relieve anxiety before your road test (or even your driving lessons, if you are feeling anxious for those also).
1. Arrive Early To Your Appointment
When you have your appointment scheduled for the road test, make sure to arrive early. Your nerves are going to be running high anyway, so don't add to it by running late for the appointment. Arrive at the testing location about 15 minutes early, which will give you enough time to relax and calm yourself before the test begins. You may also have to deal with traffic on the way to the DMV office, so leaving early allows you to not feel rushed.
2. Use A Familiar Car
Whatever car you have been using for your driving lessons should be the vehicle you take the test in. You don't want to take the test in a vehicle you have never driven before. You need to be comfortable during the test and familiar with the vehicle, which allows you to know how to properly operate the controls, brakes and drive it safely. If you took driving lessons with Coastline Academy, you can also sign up to use our vehicle for the road test!
3. Avoid Caffeine
People drink caffeine to help wake them up and feel more alert. However, drinking tea or coffee before your road test is not a good idea, as caffeine can make you jittery. This, in turn, will help contribute to your anxiety. Drinking some cold water can help you wake up naturally and be sure to eat a filling, nutritious breakfast, such as eggs or cereal before taking off for the exam.
4. Keep It A Secret
We know that you are excited to get your driver's license, but you might want to hold off on telling people about your upcoming driving test. Announcing it can put undue pressure on you. Some people feel anxious when telling people, as they don't want to disappoint them if they don't pass. By not telling anyone but your parents, then it allows you to focus solely on passing the test. Just wait it out and make the big announcement after you pass the driving test!
Just always remember to stay calm and breathe. You got this!
