How Many Hours Do You Need With A Driving Instructor In California?

Published on 2021-11-01 in Driving Lessons

When applying for your driver's license in California, the Department of Motor Vehicles has certain criteria you must finish first, which includes taking a drivers ed course and completing your behind-the-wheel drivers training hours. You may be wondering how many hours do you need with a driving instructor in California? It can be confusing, but we answer that question for you below!

Behind-The-Wheel Training

Before beginning your behind-the-wheel training, you must first complete the Driver's Ed course and then pass your written test at the DMV office. Once those are completed and passed, then it is time to begin your behind-the-wheel training now that you have your permit in hand.

For the behind-the-wheel training, the California DMV requires you to complete six hours of behind-the-wheel training with an approved professional driving instructor. Coastline offers driving lessons throughout the state of California. The six hours needs to be broken down into three 2-hour lessons and cannot be completed in one lesson.

Of course, this is the minimum number of hours required by the state. If you feel you need more time with a driving instructor, you are more than welcome to take more driving lessons. To get your driver's license in California, you need at least six hours with an approved professional driving instructor.
