What Items Are On The Pre-Drive Checklist For Nevada Driving Test?
The time has come, as you have finished all your requirements and now you are ready to head to the Nevada DMV to take your driving test and get your drivers license. The driving test inspector for the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will conduct a pre-drive checklist before you begin your driving test. If you do not pass this, then you won't even get a chance to drive! Pass it with ease and make sure your car is ready to go using our pre-drive checklist below!
Pre-Drive Checklist
For the driving test in Nevada, the applicant must provide a vehicle in good condition for testing. The DMV examiner will inspect your vehicle before the test begins to make sure it is safe to drive. If your vehicle does not meet the requirements, you will need to reschedule your driving test.
Night Before Your Driving Test
To be fully prepared for your driving test the next day, you should familiarize yourself with the vehicle you will be driving during the road test. Make sure the vehicle is street legal and without any issues, which would include:
- Making sure all the vehicle lights work, including the brake lights, head lights, reverse lights, hazards and turn signals
- Making sure the horn works properly
- Familiarizing yourself with all the buttons, levers and instruments in the vehicle, such as the AC controls, turn signals, windshield wipers, headlight switch and emergency/parking brake.
Before DMV Road Test Begins
Before you arrive at the Nevada DMV office for your road test, you should make sure that your windows and windshield are clean. These windows should also be free from any cracks. It is illegal to drive with a cracked windshield, so this would prevent you from taking the driver's test.
You will also need to check the tires on your vehicle. Cracked, low or excessively worn tires would be another reason the examiner can use for not allowing you to take the driving test. Make sure you have adequate air pressure and tread on the tires for the vehicle you are using.
Starting The Driving Test
When the road test is ready to begin, the DMV examiner that will be grading you will conduct their own vehicle inspection. If the vehicle is not up to legal standards or is deemed to be unsafe, you will be sent home before the test even begins.
While in the vehicle, make sure to adjust the side and rear view mirrors of the vehicle. This will show the examiner that you are a safe driver who always adjusts their mirrors before hitting the road.
If you pass the pre-drive checklist and your car is safe and ready to hit the road, then it is time to begin the actual driving test. We discuss what they test for the behind-the-wheel driving test in Nevada right here!
